The Manana Trail begins at the end of a road in a neighborhood in central eastern Oahu. I set out to hike it one day and I was ready to go to the very end of the trail, wherever that took me. Instead I got sidetracked by what looked like a small trail to a nearby waterfall. I thought it would just be at the bottom of the hill. Of course, it wasn't. After several hours of negotiating dense vegetation I got to Waimano Falls. The trail looked like it might continue beyond that, but the way involved crossing a single rope slung across a chasm I wasn't ready to take on that day. I got back to the Manana Trail and was only able to do a bit more of that trail before turning around for the day.
