Just east of the town of Lake Orion, Bald Mountain is a surprisingly undeveloped plot of land amidst the Detroit sprawl. The roads that run through it are less maintained than most of Michigan's roads and it doesn't serve as a convenient pass-through so it's actually quiet here. When I was in the middle of this little forest I couldn't hear any cars. It was nice.
The scenery is pleasant here: hills, forest and a few lakes to break it up a little bit. The trails are well maintained and the frequent maps guarantee you won't get lost even with the abundance of herd trails running throughout the area. If there had been more snow it would have been a great place to go skiing, but as it was it made for a nice walk, as I'm sure it would also do in the summer.
