Robert G Wehle State Park, located on the eastern shore of Lake Ontario, is the most recently added New York State Park. Why would anyone donate a state park to a state that seems to threaten closing many of its state parks each year? No idea.
In any case, this park is a real gem and often deserted. Maybe nobody knows about it yet. Its 16 miles of trails are full of great views of the lake, fun (slippery!) rocks, and relics of its history as a military training base. The park is quite flat so it's also a great place for beginners to go cross country skiing in the winter.
